3 Ingredient Healthy Chai Tea Latte

Well hello, it's nice to be here on a Thursday.  Maybe I'll make this a regular occurrence. Maybe.

Today I bring to you my healthy spin on a Chai Tea Latte.

A few weeks ago I gave up coffee unintentionally.  I was in Trader Joe's and this box of Organic Ruby Red Chai practically pole vaulted itself off of the shelf and into my cart.  With my sensitivity to caffeine  increasing I figured maybe I'd have some tea and save coffee for those really difficult mornings.  After my first morning with this tea, I never looked back.

Okay, I looked back once and tried coffee on a snowy day.  I was shocked to discover that my taste buds were no longer a fan of the stuff and that is how I unintentionally gave up coffee.

If I am ever to treat myself to Starbucks, I tend to go with a Chai Tea Latte. So, with my new tea in hand I thought I'd venture out to make my own at home.  I knew I wanted it to be easy and semi-healthy, two things I think I've achieved with the recipe below.  I'm actually embarrassed to even call it a recipe, there are three ingredients involved and very little work so I'm not even sure it counts! Anyway.......

What you will need:

1 Tea Bag of your favorite chai tea
6-8 oz of water (the less water you have the more spicy your tea will be)
1-2 TBS of Horizon Organic Vanilla Flavor Half-and-Half Ultra-Pasteurized Milk (I bet a Vanilla Almond Milk would be an awesome substitute but I have not tried it yet myself)

I know, I know a coffee type creamer.  In comparison, this is the most healthy I've found and contains only the following ingredients:
organic grade a milk, organic grade a cream, organic evaporated cane juice, natural vanilla flavor

Boil your water and pour it over your tea bag. Allow the tea to steep for however long your brand of tea suggests.  The kind I use from Trader Joe's says to steep for 5-6 minutes but that it can even steep longer without getting bitter like some teas do.  When done steeping remove the tea bag and add 1-2 TBS (depending on your taste preference) of the half-and-half.  Stir and enjoy.

Easy peasy friends.  With 1T of half-and-half you're looking at 22.5 calories and 1 gram of sugar.  With 2T of half-and-half you're at 45 calories and 2 grams of sugar. Not too bad considering I used roughly 4 (sometimes 5) tablespoons of processed flavored creamer when I drank coffee.
Give it a try, I promise you won't be sorry!
